Kaytlynn Brann turned 16 years old on February 21, 2013. The very next day she was hit and killed by off-duty police officer Daniel Snyder. As Sarah and Kaytlynn (Kk) were walking back to Kk’s house, Daniel Snyder was driving drunk down the same road, and he apparently did not see the girls even though the sun had not fully set. He hit Kk so hard that he fishtailed into the neighborhood where both he and Kk lived. Kk flew 83 feet and landed in a ditch next to the road. Neighbors heard Kk’s bloodcurdling scream and came running.

Daniel Snyder got out of his truck and looked down into the ditch where Kk was laying, unable to breath, gasping for air and vomiting, and he got back into his truck and left. He left because he was drunk. He left because he was speeding. He left because he broke the law, and he knew it. Daniel Snyder returned to the scene AFTER calling his lawyer and THEN dialing 911. By the time he got around to making the phone call for an ambulance, they were already there!

When Daniel Snyder returned to the scene, police and EMS were already present, and they requested for him to blow into a breathalyzer. Even though he agreed, the officer administering the initial test says that Snyder was acting as though he didn’t know how to blow into the machine, though all police officers are trained in this, and he got frustrated. Snyder had to be spoken to by another police officer (more than likely a friend) who finally convinced him to take the test correctly. He blew positive, but for some reason, they did not arrest him. They did not charge him with drinking and driving. They do not charge him with ANYTHING. It took MONTHS before they finally made the decision to charge him with leaving the scene of an accident, a pitiful charge when compared to his actual crimes.

Kk was dying in a ditch, and all he could think about (per his OWN statement) was how this was going to “mess things up” for him. He didn’t care about taking her life, he didn’t care about anything but his own troubles, and how this was going to affect his life. Over a year after Kk’s death, he was finally convicted of leaving the scene of the accident, but he got a pitiful YEAR in prison with five years supervised release after that. If this had been ANYONE other than a police officer… I don’t even have to finish that thought.
